Space: The final frontier

These are the voyages of the robotic spacecraft, Cassini–Huygens
Its few year mission
To explore strange new worlds
To seek out new rings and new dynamic behavior of Saturn's satellites and atmosphere clouds
To boldly go where no man has gone before…

A brief view from
CICLOPS Captain's Log

December 24, 2007:

A few pictures of the Titan liquid methane ocean, dunes form Titan’s Sahara desert as well as liquid water, organic materials and heat on Enceladus.

Most beautiful: Cassini picture of a total eclipse of the sun seen from the other side of Saturn where you may see Earth as a pale blue orb between the rings of Saturn itself (over a billion kilometers away)…

Are all this meant to change our self perspective, make us appreciate more our unique planet?

Well I sure have found more inspiration in this as I would like to imagine humanity as a model citizen of the Universe and Earth as a blue diamond between the Federation of Planets.

Explore... your inspiration

A few days ago, during a kickoff, the concept of challenge was very discussed as opposed to the mere high objectives one may have. Although some very good definition and examples were given, I felt something was missing from what it was proposed as to be the next challenge. The way I would describe my own challenges at work it would be with no little difference, so I kept asking myself: why, what am I missing from all this?

Yesterday night, I was tired and somehow feeling empty. I then opened TED homepage and i listen to the following speech...

I felt most inspired. Yes, these all are real challenges. Seeing the images from the caves I felt the thrill of a Mystery Touch. It is clear to me that for Bill Stone exploring the unknown it’s not a self set high objective but it’s responding to a higher call (caves, moon, space...). Going to the moon is not a challenge about making profit from space mining operations. Instead the challenge is how using passion to apply experience from cave diving to space exploration; it's all about HOW it's going to do it, about finding othe bold and passionate people ready to risk their lives into this.
As they say in some bmw commercials: “Sometimes is not important where you go but how you get there”.

The dream of Kamkwamba

I do not know how people became fascinated reading day after day that same old news from allover in the world: governments and stock markets going up and down, people fighting against other people, planet dieing and our leaders don't caring...

Lately if got used, first thing in the morning, to read some more positive news, Usually is about one person or a small group who has done or has discovered something wonderful that could make a difference for us all. Somehow things like this make me start the day in a better positive mood.

Today let's take a look at this very popular short video from TED:
If you believed clean energy is just a problem of the powerful nations, that energy cost too much or that to produce energy may require advanced skills and technology you are taking too much things for granted...

And don't know how, but i felt like out there in Malawi I have an unknown friend...

No, I'm not kidding, this is serious stuff, it's about the dream of an entire nation: here you may find more information about William project including a video from Wall Streat Journal showing the third windmill in action and a link to donate to help William and his projects.

Goodluck William and keep going!

Humanity 2.0

Jeffrey Skoll (born January 16, 1965) was the first president and second employee of Internet auction firm eBay, 43 years old a few days ago, and a fortune worthing more than $4 Billion.

If you already knew this it's probable that you'll imagine that HUMANITY 2.0 is about nothing more than a speech on how technology and Internet may transform future generations. If you are also a StarTrek fan, it wouldn't take you so long to picture Humanity 2.0 as explorers of the Universe fighting against the borg interconnected and super technological society...

But no, actually reality may be more surprising than fiction (as long in our society, find out that a successful person decided to use his wealth to become a philanthropist, may be a surprising fact...).

Seeing this speech, there were different things that touched me. For instance, before this, I never would think that Hollywood movie production and Silicon Valley may have something in common (except Spielberg's special effects). Instead
, there is a successful movie production company founded by ex Silicon Valley man. And that's not all, as strange as it may sound, this media company WAS FOUND TO PROMOTE SOCIAL VALUABLE MOVIES, and it's also profitable! Well as you can imagine, this kind of activity cannot be successful by itself, lucky for them that out there 2.0 Heroes are writing the history just because they believe that a peaceful and wealthy world is not just future fantasy but future reality!

I am a father, that caused me lots of happiness and also faced me with some new kind of worries: how the world it's going to be when my little boy will be a grown up?

Suddenly, while I was watching this, that beautiful future i've put all my hopes into, seamed to me a lot more closer (and in the same time I became much older, but this another story...). So, if we are going to do something about the future of our sons NOW it's a good time to start.

Enough talk from me, let's see Jeff ...

Underwater astonishments

When humanity entered the third millennium somehow we start to think that we’ve seen all that is to be seen, we discovered all that is not very hidden inside, we’ve been able to explain all that is to be explain all that simple things around us.

After looking deep inside the nature of things, as far as to fully understand human DNA, seams that nothing can amaze us anymore except starting in a new scientific journey of improve mother nature work by genetic manipulation.

And in the same time when humanity takes it’s firsts steps on this road, somewhere else in the world, someone brings out a new facet of the Nature that was al the time in front of our eyes and we only can agree how just amazing this new old things is. And in the same time it seams that we are so far away from fully understanding the Mistery of live…

This is just an example...
